Adding old ticket info

I have tried to convince my customer that importing 5000 old tickets from their old system is a bad idea. I explained about leaving it in a spreadsheet for historical purposes but they insist they need the data in the new system.

I have been researching all the different methods for generating tickets from batch files, from the command line and I wanted to ask if anyone has successfully done this and if so could they possibly point me in the right direction for the correct method.

Any advice or tip would be greatly appreciated. I would love to hear how anyone has solved this dilemma before.
